Giant Steps Public Tasting Saturday 3rd October 12pm -2pm

Join us as Ashlyn from Jackson Family Wines pours through one of the Yarra Valley’s most iconic portfolios.
Giant Steps was born from a quest. Phil Sexton, a pioneer of the Margaret River wine scene, turned his attention east — drawn to the Yarra Valley in search of the ideal conditions for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of real purity and finesse. He found what he was looking for near Gruyere, planting the Sexton Vineyard in 1997 on the steep slopes of the Warramate Ranges. A devoted jazz fan, he named the winery after John Coltrane’s landmark album — a fitting metaphor for ambition and forward movement.
In 2003, winemaker Steve Flamsteed joined Phil, and together they began building a range of Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays defined by a profound sense of place — drawing from six distinct sites across the Yarra Valley. In 2021, Melanie Chester stepped into the role of Head of Winemaking and Viticulture, bringing with her both deep admiration for the estate and a clear philosophy: keep the winemaking transparent, so that what you taste is the vineyard itself. “The wines will never look the same because the vineyards continue to change,” she says, “but we are committed to ensuring that the quality will be the same if not better.”
More than two decades on, Giant Steps remains one of Australia’s most compelling voices in cool-climate winemaking.
