 *Outstanding* It’s rare in my experience when a Savigny can trump a well-made Chambolle when it comes to aromatic complexity but that’s exactly the case here as the sheer breadth of expression is mind boggling. Pungent earth, game, violets, smoke, iron and anise can be found in the richly fruited nose that introduces with a flourish the supple, delicious yet entirely serious and sappy flavors that offer a velvety, mouth coating and staining texture and wonderful length. As good as the Fremières, this is a clear step up and the ’02 Narbantons is as good an example of this wine as I can ever remember.  (1/2004)
