This has a superb, irony nose with redcurrant, cranberry and just a hint of scorched leather and…is that a note of squid ink? Full-bodied on the palate that just oozes confidence, quite spicy, layers of red-berried fruit, muscular almost to the point of being abrasive by time will smooth that out. Not as sensuous as the Clos de Vougeot ’03 tasted alongside, but there is a caressing, ferrous finish with just a little unresolved oak that suggests it will plateau in a couple of years time. Drink 2011-2022. Tasted April 2009. (NM)
