Description
The fruit of a plot of vines planted with 85% Merlot, 7% cabernet franc, 6% cabernet sauvignon, 1% malbec and 1% carménère, Emilien is matured in seasoned large oak barrels and casks for 24 months. It is always a medium bodied, silky, elegant wine with very fine tannins. This vintage is superb at Le Puy and has forged an Emilien that will keep for many years; it is slightly lighter in colour than the 2020 that we last shipped and has an attractive garnet/ruby colour and light purplish hues. The nose is as always complexed with blueberry, cassis and redcurrant with hints at sous-bois and gravel. In 2021 the wine is again superb quality, medium-bodied it is very precise, with fine tannins paving the way for a very long and complex finish. 2021 has provided a wine of great finesse, sensual in its youth but also with the potential to age and grow for several decades, revealing the full depth and character of this superb terroir. The epitome of elegance and refinement, this wine will cellar to advantage for 20-30 years.
