With an astonishing amount of finesse this powerful wines of Remi is an exceptional example of everything great about Gamay. Is juicy and mineral forward, perfect balanced and with lots of fruit notes like cherry, strawberry and cranberries – candy. Delicious drinkable chilled in its youth but if you can manage to keep some bottles for your celler without drinking them right away…you will have a truly special something in 5-10years time.
Fostered by the great old masters Jean-Claude Lapalu and Jean Foillard who has said he considers Dufaitre among the best of the younger generation of Beaujolais winemakers, Remi and his wife Laurence have been cultivating vineyards in the Brouilly area since 2006. In 2010 they started producing their first own wines bringing to the market.
They make wines in a carbonic stlye, with native yeast, no chaptalization, no sulphites, on 15 hectares in the appellations: beaujolais villages red, beaujolais white villages, brouilly, cote de brouilly. With a soil that goes from clay / pink granite to the cote de brouilly that has blue granite because the hill is an ancient volcano. They work with concrete tanks and wooden tanks producing stunning wines that are refined and special. You can also find some of the wines on star list – restaurants around the world.
Rémi is also a member of the informal group that has evolved from Kermit Lynch’s “gang of four,” the producers in Morgon who studied with natural-wine-pioneer Jules Chauvet and make natural wine (Foillard among them). This group has grown to include younger winemakers like Rémi, who are working in the same spirit.
