Description
Fresh and lively, this wine bursts with zesty citrus notes and a touch of saltiness, all balanced by wonderful acidity and impressive depth. A vibrant expression that’s both refreshing and satisfying.
Pale lemon in colour, and also reductive if less than the Aligoté. A little more volume of fruit on the palate, never likely to be a problem in 2023, with a long, generous finish behind. Does not show the high yield and the finish is a delight. From eight plots all on the right side of the RN. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Oct 2024. Jasper Morris
This small, six-hectare domaine in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet is making rapid strides under the guidance of Philippe Pernot—a scion of the Paul Pernot dynasty. Since launching the Pernot Belicard label in 2009, Philippe has shifted away from selling to négociants, focusing on estate bottling and quality.
Vineyard Practices:
- Soils are cultivated and old vines carefully maintained
- Aggressive de-budding to ensure quality
- Hand-harvested grapes, typically among the earliest in the village
Winemaking:
- Since 2014, grapes are sorted over a shaker table before whole-cluster pressing
- Extended barrel aging until August, followed by 3–6 months in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks on fine lees
- This approach delivers wines that are notably integrated and complete
Philippe’s dedication to refinement and improvement, along with enviable vineyard parcels, marks Pernot Belicard as an estate to watch. As noted by William Kelley (Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate):
“These are already very good wines… but it is his desire to refine and improve that marks this out as an estate to watch.”
