Becot Family Wine Tasting, Raising Money For Mc Grath Foundation Pink October Saturday 10th October 12pm – 2pm

October 10 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

In 2001, Juliette Bécot acquired a small vineyard in the Côtes de Castillon — a parcel known simply by the name of the land it sat on: Joanin. She kept that name, adding her own beside it. As she described it herself, she adopted the vineyard as one adopts a child: with commitment, with care, and with love for the place.

From the beginning, her vision was to make something distinctly her own — a wine feminine in character and delicate in structure, yet built to endure. What she created over the following two decades became one of the quietly distinguished wines of Bordeaux. The estate sits on the same limestone seam that runs east out of Saint-Émilion, sharing geology with Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, Premier Grand Cru Classé B — the family domaine that holds a two-grape rating in the Michelin Guide 2026, placing it at the same level as Mouton Rothschild and Margaux. That lineage shows in the wine. The 2019 Joanin Bécot is now listed by more than 47 Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide, and poured by Air France in their business lounges.

But Juliette did not stop at the wine. For more than twenty years, the Bécot family has donated to breast cancer foundations, and in doing so broke with French label tradition entirely. The bottles wear a pink label and a pink collar — a deliberate statement of solidarity that has resonated far beyond Saint-Émilion.

Earlier this year, I travelled through Bordeaux with a small group of friends and clients, among them Fiona Rowland, who has been a customer of mine since my days at France-Soir. Fiona joined the trip not just as a lover of wine, but as someone who has lived this story. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, treated, and recovered. Her sister Kate, whom I also knew well, was not so fortunate.

In January this year, I lost my sister-in-law. She was 46 years old — a remarkable, positive woman who fought breast and bone cancer for thirteen years with a grace I find difficult to put into words. Her absence is felt every day.

Standing together in the cellar at Joanin Bécot, Fiona and I did not say much. The pink collar on those bottles spoke its own language.

For every bottle of the 2019 Château Joanin Bécot sold, Leroi Brighton will donate $4 to the McGrath Foundation.
