Description
After 200 years only producing wines from outstanding cru of Serraboella where the estate is based, finally Paitin have a new Cru, with the inaugural release of the 2018 Basarin.
In 2018 Paitin shared a parcel of the excellent Basarin with Sottimano which became available when local grower Romano Bonino an 89 year old with no heirs decided to sell his holdings. It’s an outstanding red fruited and distinctly mineral first release for Paiitn.
Basarin is also in Neive like Serraboella and true Paitin style the wine is raised in large old oak.
17++ Jancis – “Neive. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Captivating nose of deep perfumed cherry fruit with hints of white pepper and a minty cardamom hint. Supple, concentrated palate with firm but ripe tannins. Long and multi-layered and with plenty of future. (WS)”

Galloni – “A new wine in the range, 2018 Barbaresco Basarin offers up a compelling mix of hard candy, lavender, mint, spice and licorice. The aromatics alone are so compelling. I would give the 2018 a few years in bottle to soften, as the tannins are pretty nervous today. This is certainly a fine start though.” Drink 2024 – 2038.
