Description
This vintage of Volnay offers a captivating evolution from the elegant 2021, delivering sweeter, richer fruit and a more generous profile, all while retaining the hallmark finesse of the appellation. The wine brims with charm—its drop-dead gorgeous fruit and brilliant tension define its unmistakable Volnay character. Tannins are almost imperceptible, only making their presence known on the long, graceful finish. Very limited availability.
Vineyard & Winemaking
Sourced from the southeast corner of Volnay, the “Les Petits Poisots” lieu-dit is rooted in rusty limestone and clay soils, with Pinot Noir vines dating back to 1946 and 1986. The southeast exposure ensures optimal ripening, and harvesting is done entirely by hand.
Fermentation spans 15–20 days, beginning with a cold maceration and including traditional pigéage (punching down the cap) for extraction. The wine then spends 15–18 months maturing in French oak barrels, of which only 15% are new. A gentle filtration is applied before bottling if required. Annual production is just 1,800 bottles.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the 2022 vintage reveals a beautiful purple hue and a delicately spiced bouquet with hints of small black fruits. The palate is generous and concentrated, layered with notes of currant and blackberry, all balanced by vibrant acidity and a refined tannic structure. The finish lingers with elegance and subtle power—a true expression of Volnay’s reputation as the most graceful red wine of the Côte de Beaune.
