Description
Sourced from the vineyards of Pelles and Pellands, this wine displays a wealth of orchard fruit and flinty notes, offering excellent harmony and balance. Distinctively Meursault in character, it stands out as a true expression of its origin—a rare achievement in today’s Burgundy, especially at this price point.
From Pelles and Pellands. Pale lemon colour. The nose is hard to tease out at first. The palate though shows good concentration, with adequate acidity and a feeling of tension. The fruit is just perfectly ripe and extends well at the finish. Rounded in style but racy to finish. Drink from 2027-2031. Tasted Oct 2024. Jasper Morris
This small, six-hectare domaine in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet is making rapid strides under the guidance of Philippe Pernot—a scion of the Paul Pernot dynasty. Since launching the Pernot Belicard label in 2009, Philippe has shifted away from selling to négociants, focusing on estate bottling and quality.
Vineyard Practices:
- Soils are cultivated and old vines carefully maintained
- Aggressive de-budding to ensure quality
- Hand-harvested grapes, typically among the earliest in the village
Winemaking:
- Since 2014, grapes are sorted over a shaker table before whole-cluster pressing
- Extended barrel aging until August, followed by 3–6 months in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks on fine lees
- This approach delivers wines that are notably integrated and complete
Philippe’s dedication to refinement and improvement, along with enviable vineyard parcels, marks Pernot Belicard as an estate to watch. As noted by William Kelley (Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate):
“These are already very good wines… but it is his desire to refine and improve that marks this out as an estate to watch.”
