Description
A blend of Grenache and Carignan from the brown slate slopes of Maury, matured as a Vin Doux Naturel. The “Hors d’Âge” designation indicates extended ageing (at least five years) in glass demijohns and/or old wooden barrels.
Bright brick red in colour, the nose is captivating: dried plums and peaches, cherries, raspberries, candied ginger and orange peel, dark chocolate with mint, shortbread, hints of lavender and cool stone.
On the palate, this aged Maury is fresh, ripe and sensually creamy. The natural sweetness is balanced by vibrant acidity, with layers of red and dried fruits, ripe citrus and warm butter biscuit. Despite its aromatic depth and 17.5% ABV, it remains remarkably light on its feet, with a long, compelling finish.
Founded in 2001 in Montner, in northern Roussillon, Domaine Le Roc des Anges is the creation of Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet, drawn to old vines rooted in schist and quartz. The name, inspired by a white vein running through the rock, reflects their pursuit of purity.
To deepen their work with natural sweet wines, they later created Les Terres de Fagayra, dedicated to Maury tuilé and ambré, guided by the same precision and freedom.
The vineyards are farmed organically, without chemicals, with careful attention to each parcel. Carignan, Grenache and Macabeo grow on dry, stony soils swept by wind and sun, with naturally low yields. The vines for Les Terres de Fagayra, perched on the heights of Maury, are tended with the same philosophy: capturing the essence of the terroir while preserving freshness.
