Description
The Chery vineyard boasts very pure, soft sandy granite soils that enable the roots to go deep, which stand the vines in particularly good stead during heat waves and result in wines of strong mineral character. The vines are between 40 and 80 years old. It is one of the great vineyards of Condrieu. This cuvée was partially fermented in stainless steel (1/4), the rest was fermented in 228L barrique (25% new) and then aged in barrique (10% new) for one year; then another three months in stainless steel before bottling.
“Compared to the Clos Chanson, the 2023 Condrieu Chery brings a sweeter, more opulent profile yet holds onto a gorgeous sense of purity. Honeyed orange, toasted bread, white flowers, and subtle tropical notes define the aromatics, and it brings a liquid rock-like sense of chalkiness and minerality on the palate. Medium to full-bodied, focused, elegant, and beautifully balanced, you can’t go wrong here, and it, too, is perfect for drinking over the coming decade. Drink 2025-3035.” 97 points JebDunnuck.com Sept 2025
“Yellow, lustrous robe; the bouquet carries inner richness, an air of vanilla pod, attractive pear with a fine apricot, white strawberry presence, a note of grilling and “high” in the fruit. This is reserved Chéry, less flamboyant than it can be, shows oak on the aftertaste. It’s all as one, with nifty mineral along the second half, will be a gradual unfurler. The finish is good, has inner heart, gains depth there. “It has structure, is fine” André Perret. 14°. Bottled Nov 2024. From 2027, decant. 2038-40 Apr 2025” – 5 stars JJL The Rhone Report
“A massively full-bodied and powerful wine with explosive peach fruit and huge body and palate presence. The acidity is balanced for the style, with slightly elevated alcohol. Seriously powerful! This is bigger than a classic vintage of Perret’s Chéry, but still has the freshness and salinity desired. Three-quarters aged in 228L and 400L barrels for 12 months, the rest in stainless steel. Drink 2024-2026” 95 points Matt Walls for Decanter tasted in Oct 2024
